Entitled Kids: Teaching Kids To Be Grateful

Happy Thanksgiving word cloud

It’s that time of year again, Thanksgiving. It is a time to eat turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie and corn bread. It is also a time to reflect on all that we have and feel grateful for the little things in life.

I have written many articles on the secret of true happiness. Experts agree that the happiest people are grateful people. They are happy with what they have and they see the beauty in everyday mundane things. We want to make sure that our kids also appreciate the little things in life.

I love this quote from ― William MartinThe Parent’s Tao Te Ching: Ancient Advice for Modern Parents:

Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable,
but it is the way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples and pears.
Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.”

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
