Mother’s Day: 3 More Ways To Take Care Of Ourselves

Screen Shot 2013-05-08 at 2.26.30 PMMother’s Day is almost here. It is one of my most favorite days of the year. My husband asked me what I want to do this Mother’s Day. I told him that I want to go swimming at the gym, have a large coffee ice cream cone at my favorite ice cream place, and I don’t want to think about cooking or cleaning up from dinner. That would be the perfect Mother’s Day for me.

Yesterday, I posted 7 simple ways to take care of ourselves everyday, not just on Mother’s Day. I couldn’t stop thinking about this. If we just took some time for ourselves everyday, we all would be so much happier and so would our families. So, here are 3 more simple ways for us to take care of ourselves:

Don’t let mistakes control you:

When you make a mistake today don’t beat yourself up about it. A burnt dinner, forgotten phone call to your son’s teacher, being impatient with your kids, is something that happens to all of us. Pretend that it happened to your friend, what would you tell them? Use positive self-talk, “I am a good Mom. I can handle these setbacks and move on.”

Command Respect:

Don’t let your children be disrespectful to you. If your child is talking back, tell him in a gentle voice, “I would love to hear what you have to say, can you try telling that to me again with a respectful tone?” Tell yourself, “As a parent it is important that I ask my children to be respectful.”

Just Do It:

Do one thing for yourself that is totally indulgent and one thing that is totally practical. Take a bubble bath and listen to some relaxing music. Then schedule that checkup, mammogram or the allergist appointment that you haven’t had time to do.
