I promised to let you know how my Passover, aka Spring cleaning is going. Passover is now 5 weeks away and counting.
1. I had a conversation with T. This is how it went:
Me: “This is the story, Passover is 6 weeks away. I am making a list of all the things that need to be done. I have 2 things that I thought you might be interested in. Organizing the toys in the family room and organizing the videos. (T usually likes to organize.)
T: “Uck, I don’t want to do that. Those are not good jobs. What else do you have?”
Me:(a little annoyed, but still trying to remain upbeat) “Well, I don’t have anything else right now, but I will come up with something. In the meantime, I want you to think about what you can help me with.”
The next day T says, “Mommy, did you think of any jobs for me?”
So although, I do not have any other jobs yet, I am glad she is offering her help.
2.Next kid:
A says to me, “Mommy, I need to play on the computer, I am so bored!”
Me: “Oh boy, you know if you can’t think of anything else to do except play on the computer, we have trouble. I know, I need the DVD’S and Wii games organized. How about that?”
A agreed.
He organized everything. Not the way I would do it, but I focused on the positive and said, “These DVD’s are all in order, you found covers for the loose ones and you stacked them up in an organized way.”
A also found some games he forgot he had and some old controllers that he thinks he can sell. He was very excited.
So to try to foster a life long love of organizing and cleaning, I said, “Sometimes cleaning and organizing can be kind of fun. Especially when you find things that you have forgotten all about. It is like getting presents.”
So far so good. There is more. I will post about it later in the week.
