Good Parenting: 9 Ways To Keep Your Life In The Slow Lane

Everyone seems to be in a rush these days. I feel like life has sped up and I am always doing things on the run. It is really important to me to slow down, stop and smell the roses. If I don’t I feel like I am in a car with no brakes. I start to get anxious and loopy. I really try to make a concerted effort to slow things down, especially at home.

Here are some things that I have tried that seem to be working:

1. Wake up a little earlier so I have the patience to handle those morning mini emergencies.

2. Be home at 3:15 to get dinner started and transition from work mode to Mom mode.

3. Leave my cell phone in the car once I get home at 3:15.

4. Do not answer phone calls during dinner unless it is a grandparent.

5. Linger over our family dinner.

6. Limit extracurricular activities for the kids.

7. Do not touch the computer after 10pm. (Not great at this but I am getting there.)

8. Take a half hour walk everyday, preferably outside in the fresh air.

9. Grocery shop once a week. (Work in progress)

I would love to hear what you do to keep your life from spiraling out of control.
